Big Creek Reserve-

Although I’m not sure if Big Creek Reserve is my favorite landscape, it is defiantly one of them. I was in Big Creek Reserve camping out and taking a class on preserving California’s environments through fieldwork and research. Gamboa point, which was my favorite place that I saw when I was camping in Big Creek, is technically just outside of the reserve and in the privately own section of the Big Sur coastline. There were two reasons that made me love Gamboa point when I first saw it; the first reason is just because of how beautiful it was. Gamboa point is a hill covered in golden Slender wild oats (Avena barbata) just over the flog line above all the other deciduous tree covered mountains.   We made it to Gamboa point a half an hour before sunset, so the golden hill was framed by a colorful sky. The other reason I loved it there so much was because it is one of the few spots where the Fish and Wildlife set up a feeding spot for the California Condor, which meant there were tons of animal bones scattered.  The California Condor is the largest of all North American birds, and while I was on Gamboa point a Condor circled extremely low over me; it was an extraordinary experience.
